QuintEssenza: herbs, spices and flowers in the city

QuintEssenza (QuintEssence) is woman, an event where the protagonists are herbs, spices, flowers, and the garden. Such an event houses specialised exhibitors, divided into thematic areas with their natural, eco-sustainable, colourful, and fragrant products. This event promotes wellness, natural cosmetics, aromatherapy, infusions, herbal teas, and spirits. And then again: gardening nursery and specialised publishing. On the occasion of QuintEssenza (QuintEssence), in the middle of May, every year, the streets of the old town centre of Savigliano change their name and are cloaked in a unique and magical spring-like atmosphere.

Piazza Santarosa, which becomes the "square of herbs", takes on many colours and gives off the scents, properties, and virtues of medicinal herbs and essences. Piazza Cesare Battisti hosts the “open-air garden”, with spring flowers, geraniums, violet petunias, aromatic flowers, perennial flowers, services for ornamental tree spaces, ornamental and garden plants. Handicrafts, on the other hand, are the protagonists both on the "streets of the hobbyists" to walk in the old town centre and along the shopping streets of Savigliano. Piazza Molineri hosts "the island of vegetation and perfumes": a corner dedicated to flowers and gardens.

It all began in the old Benedictine monastery of San Pietro. Here, in the town of Savigliano, in a monastery that has recently returned to its former glory, wise monks cultivated aromatic and healing herbs for centuries. Some plants could be found only at high altitudes, so they went to collect them in the mountains, to then distil, dry, and transform them into wondrous essences. Hence the explanation of the name of the event, a term that we have inherited and that indicates something superlative: QuintEssenza (QuintEssence).

Mrs. Gabriella will show us how to create eco-sustainable packaging made with recycled materials. Everything will be made by hand and this will make the packages unique and eco-friendly.

"BOTANIC PRESS" - From 10.00 to 13.00 to 15.00 to 18.00

We will approach the technique of botanical monotype printing. What will we do in practice?

We will observe and identify the name and some characteristics of the leaves of aromatic plants. We will make our prints using the pasta machine and leaves from the Essence Garden. To complete the experience, we will ask participants to recognize botanical scents, we will associate them with sensations, trying to recognize them.

"SEED BOMBS" for a greener planet - From 10.30 to 11.15 am / From 12.00 to 12.45 pm

A sensorial and scientific laboratory to raise participants' awareness of the importance and beauty of seeds and to observe their diversity and their transformations. Afterwards, participants will have the opportunity to learn and build "seed bombs", small balls of clay, humus and aromatic plant seeds that attract bees.
